Red Kites Harewood House Outdoor Learning Trip

Red Kites had a fantastic day of outdoor learning during their visit to Harewood House, taking part in six exciting hands-on activities that brought history and nature to life. They explored the ruins of an Anglo-Saxon house while learning about archaeology, practised their warrior skills with sword and shield training, searched for fascinating mini-beasts and created their own soil bombs to help support local wildlife. The children also examined deer antlers and discovered more about the estate’s wildlife before learning about Harewood House’s role during wartime, where recovering soldiers were cared for. They even had the opportunity to practise applying bandages and slings, developing practical first aid skills. With lovely sunshine throughout the day everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience. As if the day couldn’t get any better, we were treated to an impromptu aerial display during lunch by a magnificent red kite, which circled overhead in the hope of stealing a few tasty treats.
