EAL
EAL stands for English as an Additional Language. It describes children who speak a different language at home eg) Polish, Urdu, or Ukrainian and are learning English at school. It means they are becoming bilingual or multilingual, adding English to the language(s) they already know. Here at Tranmere Park, we have some children who are totally new to English and others who know some English and are confident speakers. We aim to develop the oral and literacy skills of all of our EAL pupils so they can understand and use English confidently and competently across the curriculum and maximise their potential in all areas of school life.
