Wrens Trip to The M&S archive

Wrens Class all really enjoyed our trip to the M&S archive this week. In the morning we learnt a lot about Fairtrade and different types of fabric, both manmade and natural, before we tested some of their properties and decided what they would be useful for.

After a quick re-fuel and a run around in the sun, we learnt about the history of design at M&S and steps they (and we) can take to make clothing and food use more sustainable. We also toured the archive to find out all about some of the innovations in British fashion over the last 131 years and how clothing had to respond to rationing and other challenges.

Don’t worry though, it wasn’t all listening and hard work. We had a fab time dressing up in – and laughing at – some of the fashions that our parents and grandparents would have worn! Check out the pictures below to see what we got up to. (We particularly enjoyed the disco era!)
