Catching the coding bug

We recently took delivery of a batch of Codebug devices from Leeds-based electronics distributor Farnell element14. These adorable hand-held development boards are designed to encourage young children to get to grips with computer programming and digital literacy through practical learning and play.

Codebug helps children to develop a basic understanding of coding commands and the creative potential of electronics by allowing them to carry out a number of experiments and activities. Using a simple drag-and-drop web platform, the pupils can work on a wide variety of projects, from turning the Codebug into an interactive greeting card to building a ‘fruit keyboard’.

Based in Armley, Leeds, Farnell element14 is a leading supplier of electronic hardware and technology, including integrated circuit boards, LEDs and network cables. They support a number of educational initiatives promoting electronics and digital literacy in schools, including plans to provide one million secondary school pupils across the UK with ‘micro:bit’ development kits in association with the BBC.

Computing and ICT are an important part of our curriculum here at Tranmere Park. We look forward to using the Codebug devices to explore a wide range of entertaining and creative projects throughout the year.
