We started off the session by completing a range of drama activities. We then recreated the noisy environment inside a mill and completed some weaving in the same way that the industrial looms would. Finally, we designed our own fabric using a tartan pattern. Back in class we wrote a fact file on Abraham Moon and shared lots of interesting facts with our class mates.
Did you know?
-Abraham Moon started off his business by giving yarn to the local people of Guiseley who would weave it on their looms at home. Abraham would then buy it off them and take it to sell at Leeds Market.
-He died tragically in a horse and cart accident at Yeadon Feast
-His son Isaac took over the business when he died
-Moon’s Mills now sell their luxury fabric to designer brands such as Ralph Lauren and Burberry
