This week, Puffins have been engaging with The Great Science Share for Schools – a campaign that aims to inspire children to ask, investigate and share scientific questions that are important to them.
This afternoon, they took part in the ‘penny drop experiment’. Initially, they were challenged to see how many drops of water they could fit onto a 1p piece before it spilled over. Then, after some competitive fun with their buddies, they learnt about the science behind their task and decided upon a scientific question of their own to investigate based on this.
As a class, they decided to investigate whether the size of the coin effected the number of drops that could be held on top of it.
After their ‘fair-test’ parameters were decided upon, they set about their investigation. Feel free to ask them about their results, outliers/human errors and conclusions!
