To start our new topic on Structures, the children were challenged to work as a team and create a standing tower. They were provided with newspaper and sellotape, but no more information was shared. Herons performed ‘Funky Big Bear’ in school today. There was some enthusiastic singing alongside fantastic performances on chime bars and claves. After performing they went on to compose a new melody to the backing track and added French lyrics to it. Yes French! They are amazing.

Eagles, Skylarks and Herons learnt about the benefits of exercise for keeping us healthy in Science. They predicted which activities would raise their heartbeat and then tried them out.
Last week, to kick off Children’s Mental Health Week, Herons created ‘support balloons’ to show the people around them that support them when they find things difficult or when learning something new. It was really lovely to see the different people that children feel supported by.
In maths, Year 2 have been learning to identify, draw and describe the properties of common 2-D and 3-D shapes. We compared and sorted shapes based on their properties and used specific vocabulary (sides, edges, vertices and faces) to support our understanding. Today, we enjoyed creating our own 2-D shape patterns.
