In Woodpeckers this morning, we have been learning how to partition numbers using flexible partitioning. To begin with, we recapped the meaning of the term place value, and how to represent and partition numbers into 1000s, 100s, 10s and 1s. Then, we took a look at flexible partitioning. We started this by using counters and re-arranging these to create different ways to make our total value. Once we had grasped this idea, we had a go at creating our own 4 and 3 digit numbers to flexibly partition with the help of our buddies. After some practise, we then started to add in number sentences below, to show how we had represented our number through flexible partitioning. We had great discussions about the number of different ways one number can be partitioned!
