Currently in Woodpeckers, we are learning all about poetry. We’ve been studying Brian Moses’ ‘Walking with my Iguana’ poem very closely and today, got together to write our own version. To begin with, we deconstructed the poem, looking at the different features (rhyming schemes, repetition and rhythm) and content. We then mind-mapped some of our own ideas. Finally, we got together to share our ideas and create our own. Check it out below…
Bouncing with my Kangaroo
I’m bouncing,
with my kangaroo.
I’m bouncing,
with my kangaroo.
When the clock strikes 12,
it’s time for dinner,
my kangaroo looks like,
he’s getting thinner!
So we make it to Pizza Hut,
my kangaroo and me,
we sit at a table,
with a view of the sea.
And I’m bouncing,
with my kangaroo.
I’m bouncing,
with my kangaroo.
Well if anyone see us,
we’re for a big treat,
my kangaroo and me,
have lots of people to meet.
Till somebody phones,
the local news,
says I’ve got a giant fur ball,
on the loose.
When I’m bouncing,
with my kangaroo.
I’m bouncing,
with my kangaroo.
It’s the fur on his head,
that makes him look fluffy,
but he just loves to chat,
and drink lots of coffee.
And I know that my kangaroo,
has finished his food,
when he rubs his belly,
and tells me “mmmm… that was so good!”
I’m bouncing,
with my kangaroo.
