Today, we read Chapter 3 of the Chronicles of Narnia and discussed how the characters in our story might be feeling so far. In groups, the children were given a picture of a setting which they had to study. The children had to consider the following: What might you see here? What can be heard? What smells are there? Is there anything to taste? What can you feel/touch? What people/creatures might live here? Where might this setting be? Together they produce a large sheet of paper filled with ideas and descriptions. Some children even used thesauruses to use ambitious vocabulary and others attempted to use a simile to describe their setting. After they had written down all of their descriptive vocabulary, they presented their work to the rest of the class. These sheets will be put up around the classroom for the children to refer to throughout our unit of work.
