Today in English, we have come together as a class to write a good version of a recount (a WAGOLL). To begin with, we brainstormed our ideas, thinking about time adverbials, past tense verbs and putting things into chronological order. Then, we got together on the carpet to share these and put them into a coherent recount.
Our recount focused on a snippet of our day at school on Monday. Choosing to write about a small section allowed us to really focus on the grammar and punctuation points we have been learning, whilst also up-levelling our work through adding detail, description and more advanced vocabulary. These are all key skills we hope to use in our upcoming assessed write. Check out our WAGOLL below…
On Monday, I arrived at school at 8:45am. I had a huge frown on my face because it was freezing outside. Quickly, I ran inside and got ready to start the day. After completing my morning work, myself and the rest of Woodpeckers walked sensibly into assembly. So sensibly, that Mrs Finley (our headteacher) even said that we were the best class in school. Result! During assembly, Mrs Finley tried to persuade us that Teslas are better than Skodas. The whole school gasped in astonishment, we could not believe what we were hearing. After all, Felix T always tells us that Skodas have a three and a half litre, twin turbo engine. So, they must be the best!
Once assembly had finished, we walked sensibly back to class and were greeted by Miss Ingram who gave us 20 team points each for being the best class in school. Swiftly, we sat down ready to take our spelling test. The hardest word this week was ‘chronological’. We had been given this word because in English we have been learning all about recounts, and it’s VERY important that recounts are always written in chronological order. At 10 past 10, our time keeper called out to the class that it was finally playtime. Yipeeee! As quickly as I could, I put on my shoes, coat, hat, scarf and gloves and headed out into the Arctic (the playground!).
