We are well and truly loving our history topic this half term and are enjoying any opportunity to delve deeper into the past and find out more!
As part of our work on the Great Fire of London, we have been looking at extracts from Samuel Pepys’ diary. We have also looked at paintings from the time to see what they can tell us about ‘The Great Fire.’
Today, we spent time in pairs discussing a famous painting of ‘The Great Fire’ from 1675 (unknown) and what we could see was happening at the time. We then looked at extracts from Samuel Pepys’ diary and tried to identify aspects of his work in the painting. The children loved identifying words from the time and finding out that a ‘lighter’ is indeed a boat! We loved being history detectives!
