This week in Puffins, we have started our new Maths unit – Decimals. Before we begin our Year 5 learning, we have spent some time today re-capping our previous knowledge from years 3 and 4.
To begin with, we discussed what decimals are and where we might see them / use them in everyday life. Then, we looked at the different ways they can be represented (pictorial and abstract). After this, we used place value charts to understand their value and size in relation to both integers and other decimal place value columns. To finish, we had a go at converting between decimals and fractions. We even used our new fraction knowledge of simplifying here to challenge ourselves!
