In Maths, Herons have been learning how to add and subtract 1s. First, they worked in groups of 4 to add and subtract 3 1-digit numbers and represent this in different pictorial representations. Afterwards, in pairs, they played roll the dice to add together 3 1-digit numbers they had rolled to find the total. The children played several games together to find out who managed to make the largest totals most often.
Once we had practised how to add and subtract 1s practically, the children completed some challenging equations in their books. We used counters to help us count. Some children were even doing sums like this: 34 + 5 + 3 = and this; 57 + 4 – ___ = 66
Ask your children some questions to see how amazing they are at solving them!
