In Herons, we have been looking at different animal poems. We have discussed the 3 important R’s: rhyme, rhythm and repetition. The children were introduced to a poem called Here a Bear, There a Bear and learnt to read it in small groups. Once they had practised learning it, they worked in their groups to write their own verse to add to the poem. We discussed that the poem had an ABCB rhyming pattern and that there verse had to follow this too. The children performed their poems to the rest of the class and they were fantastic! They all read clearly and loudly and even managed to add in some of their own actions. Take a look at the performances below and some examples of their own verses.
