For your homework this week, we would like you to take part in the BBC 500 Words competition. Your teachers will have explained this further in class but here are the main headlines.
The aim is to write a story that is 500 words or less.
Your story can be about ANYTHING and you are encouraged to write a story that you would love to read yourself.
It must be your own original idea – not copied from anywhere else.
Stories must not:
Give any personal details, including your name
Recount an historical event (but you can use a real person or historical character as a source of inspiration)
Be created, written or developed by AI
As this is a competition, we encourage you to submit your own entry using the BBC 500 words website. Stories must be submitted before 9pm on Friday 8th November. The link is https://www.bbc.co.uk/500wordscompetition/submissions-fe/index.html#/profile
If you do choose to submit your story, there are prizes up for grabs – you could even be invited to Buckingham Palace!
All stories that are entered will be judged on the following criteria:
Characterisation
Plot
Originality
Language
Enjoyment
However, whether you submit your story to the official competition or not, we would still like to see your entry in school so please return your entry as your homework by Monday 21st October. There may even be separate prizes for our school for the best stories.
Entries into school can be handwritten or typed. Entries that are being submitted to the official competition will need to be typed up.
Happy writing and good luck!
