Today, the children completed a carousel of 4 different shape activities; sorting 2D shapes, sorting 3D shapes, making patterns using 2D shapes and making patterns using 3D shapes.
Sorting 2D and 3D shapes:
The children were given hoops to create a Venn diagram and had to sort the shapes based on the categories they were given. For example, quadrilaterals and triangles or flat faces and curved surfaces. The children found out that some shapes fit into both categories and needed to go in the middle.
Making patterns using 2D and 3D shapes:
The children were given sheets with 2D shape patterns on that they needed to complete. They had to think about shape and colour. They also had the opportunity to create their own patterns using 3D shapes which they cut out and stuck on their own strip of paper.
